One of the most promising projects to come out of this endeavor is Lightspark; a free, open-source Flash player for Linux and Windows.

Lightspark is a spiritual successor to Gnash, the GNU Flash movie player. In fact Lightspark was actually built on top of it. But one major addition, is Lightspark’s ActionScript 3 support, currently unavailable in most modern Flash Player emulators, including Ruffle.

Information on how to install Lightspark and what it’s capable of doing can be found on their nifty Wiki page.
