In the early half of the 2010's YouTube would work to increase the percentage of captioned videos on the platform, through various means. This was especially motivated by a rivalry with an up-and-coming subtitling platform, Amara.
In August 2008, Google finally initiated the migration of the closed captions infrastructure from Google Video to YouTube. The following months are nothing short of crazy!
