So guess what what just declared public domain? Everybody’s favorite source of reading material: legal documents!
So some context: a guy by the name of Carl Malamud runs a site called http://public.resource.org/ which scans various things. One of these things was Georgia law. The state of Georgia said no. Well, no.
What they actually did was call him a pirate and a terrorist. No, seriously. So they went to court. The Supreme Court ruled on Monday, April 27, 2020, that Georgia law is in fact public domain and that the state does not own it.
This is a good thing because in order to really have a law, people kind of need to know what it is and how it affects them. Trying to hold that hostage isn’t really helping anybody.
